The LOX Baitcaster was inspired by our most iconic inland fish, the mighty Murray Cod. The LOX Baitcaster ‘evolved” out of discussions with leading Cod Anglers. Quite simply they wanted more. Their argument was elegant in its simplicity, why didn’t the Cod have its own specific high-end rod, after all the Barramundi did. The LOX team thought this was a question worth the answering.
The specific criteria for the rod was the ability to handle bulky Cod specific lures, in-close work and yet have sufficient power reserve for handling those Gold & Green beauties of inland mythology. A further complication was that in addition a highly “steerable” rod for fast flowing water was an absolute “must have”. Plus… sufficiently large guides to allow heavy leaders to run through smoothly through the guides, in all a difficult brief!
The design team decided that the use of a special wrap was the answer. LOX always uses the highest grade of Japanese Carbon Prepreg, but what was needed was a modification in the basic lay-up of the carbon cloth. After hundreds of attempts the team was delighted to have produced a unique lay pattern that produced the “just right” curve and recovery. Combined with Fuji components and a unique reel seat and grips the team was confident the “remedy” had been produced. Our most iconic inland fish at last had an equally iconic rod with which to tempt it, into begrudging submission.
